      Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Are all mattresses built as a no-flip or can you still find some that  flip?

A:  Most all of the major mass-produced factories and independents have all gone to no-flips because of the cost, However at  Fox Mattress, we understand the importance of the longer life and support of a 2-sided mattress design. So, all of our mattresses can either be built one sided or two-sided.

All the mattresses, no matter the design, have to pass federal fire resistant guidelines.

Q:  What’s the difference in a flip and no -flip?

A:  For most of the industry’s history we all built traditionally 2-sided beds  because they literally last twice as long and give better support. But, like all things, materials have gotten  expensive so the industry decided to cut the cost of manufacturing by eliminating one side of the mattress. No-flip: All cushion is brought to one side.. Traditional: Cushioning  is on both sides  so you can turn it over.

Q:  I left another store selling  Sealy’s and Serta’s. They said they build them so well that they never need to be flipped, sounds great?

A: Like my momma used to say if it sounds to good to be true?  My argument is, I do not care what we use on one side if we put the same on both sides  wouldn’t it be better? YES,YES,YES

Q: What’s the difference in a pillow top and euro top?

A: Not much.. The pillow top was the first design with an extra pad on top usually not over 2’’ thick, A euro top is made with the extra pad thicker up to 5’’ thick.. But basically they are the same.

Q: What’s  with this fire retardant talk?

A: For many  years the mattress industry had to produce beds that a cigarette  would not catch on fire. Now we have to produce mattresses that will not catch fire with an open flame. This is the law and all Fox Mattresses , that is ever design, has fully passed this invaluable test. Who knows what’s next? Leave it to the government..

Q:  I bought an expensive national brand mattress set and in 6 months had two holes where we sleep… WHY?  ( This is a question we have hear from our customers way too often)

A: Not knowing what type, I’ll guess  pillow top. They typically cause the most problems. All pillow tops are designed to soften some and create a body silhouette. If it’s too deep it’s a problem most large manufacturers say over 1 1/2 inches is a concern. Using heavier cushion helps eliminate this issue.

Q: Talked to another large factory direct store personnel and they said you can not build  two-sided mattresses anymore and you say you can, Who’s right?

A: All I can say is either someone needs to do their homework or just tell the truth. You can build a  one-sided, two-sided, whatever you choose. It just has to pass the Federal Fire Resistant  Test . So this company either doesn’t want to produce a two-sided  mattress because of the cost or aren’t as smart as they used to be. I think they just do not want to build them because of the expense of putting materials on both sides of the mattress.

Q: What’s built for the Florida climate?

A: Every material we put in our mattresses we take in consideration  to the Florida climate. We use materials that can not absorb moisture. Moisture will turn into mildew, mold, and dust..

Q: Why do you push locally built?

A: Being a local manufacturer we feel that it is important to support our local economy as much as we can. Why should we ship our money out of  state? We like having control over what goes into our mattresses and having control over all our bedding.. WE KNOW WHAT IS IN OUR BEDS..

Q: Do I have to buy the mattress and foundation?

A:  It is best to buy both mattress and  foundation . When you buy both in matching sets it extends the life of the mattress.  A mattress and foundation is designed to work together to provide the best support. But if you have a platform bed  ( solid wood support) you need only the mattress. But when buying for a platform bed make sure the mattress is designed to be on  a solid base , for most of the mattresses designed today is designed to be on a box spring which acts as a shock absorber .  If you put a mattress designed for a box spring on a platform bed it will shock the mattress, which means the mattress will wear quicker..
